Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I have a DCS TIU and a Legacy base/remote. I know that the MTH controller will operate DCS, TMCC and Legacy engines. But will the Legacy remote be able to operate MTH DCS engines?

Right now I am using the DCS remote to operate both MTH and Lionel engines. The Legacy remote I use if I am running only  TMCC and Legacy engines. I am hoping that I can use the Legacy remote to control MTH engines with PS2. I also have a few Lionel conventional engines as well.

Thanks,

RAY

This would be a very smart move.  Dcs has been around for along time and is in need of a modern design which I have not seen yet.  I thought mth was going to replace dcs but nothing has been said and the model railroad economy is not the best right now.

Mth seems to be spending its money on HO  DCC compatabilty and making European engines and cars right now anyway.

While this is my philosophy, you can as GRJ pointed out connect the 2 systems and run in TMCC mode via the DCS remote.  Personally I wouldn't give up the features that the Cab 2 gives so I keep the 2 systems controlling their respective engines but that is a personal choice.

It sure would be nice if MTH and Lionel would talk to each other and maybe come to a point where the systems were compatible. As of this time I do not plan to purchase any MTH motive power unless it was without the electronics. Sticking with Legacy. I wish Lionel would do F-units in S gauge, maybe someday.

Ray,

I found that I wanted to run both DCS & Legacy, my FasTrack Command Control switches work exceedly well with the Legacy, however my Tin Plate DCS P2 is simply fantastic.  If my pre-ordered 990 Legacy does not get here pretty darn soon, I will need to invest in an older TMCC unit, just to control my CC FasTrack switches.  I sure wish MTH would have gone with some kind of command control engineering, instead of using the AIU, and all the wiring.

Dave.

If you are going with the 990, would you not consider maybe doing the Cab 1 L, this would work in conjunction with the base for the 990. I know that you can hook the Cab 1 base and the Legacy base and run that way but for the cost difference the Cab 1 L may be the better choice plus it would be new equipment. I myself have gone from the Cab 2 to the Cab 1 L for simplification of the operation plus I hope for less problems. I believe Charles Ro has Cab 1 L in stock yet and not a bad price.

Just my thinking.
