Hi Gary,
Are you using a Legacy remote or CAB-1/CAB-1L?
By default, the head engine does the signals and dialog. With a Legacy remote, you can change this behavior. Or as you suggest, but the locomotive with whistle steam in the front of your consist.
I am using legacy remote !!Do i need to move k-4 to the front ??
Rudy you mentioned i can change the behavior ?? How do I do that ??

This answer does contradict the manual though. The manual states that if a horn/whistle and dialog is assigned to another engine it is automatically disable from the others. I can't honestly say I've done this in a long time so perhaps someone can confirm that they can be assigned to more than one locomotive but I suspect the manual is incorrect on the horn part as I seem to recall being able to sound multiple engine horns in a lash up. Also this is provided that the engines are of a newer vintage. Note Dave does say the dialog can be only on 1 engine.
Perhaps @Railsounds or @Dave Olson can confirm the manual is incorrect.
2) Is it possible to add a feature to lash-up where the whistles/horns and bells of all locomotives in the lash-up sound when the command is given with the Cab-2?
Already does. Just have to add in the sound command to each loco in the lash-up build. The only thing that cannot be on more than 1 unit is the dialog.

I just tried this a few days ago. You can make all of the Rail Sounds enabled engines in a Lash-Up sound their horn/whistle, but only one can do the dialog.

Thanks for confirming Harvey. I thought so but when I saw the manual text I started questioning myself. Hopefully Dave and Rudy will get the text on the manuals corrected.

Interesting. How? The only way I can override this, is to program them all to one number.... or keep them separate numbers in the TR lashup and hit ENG then the locomotive number and the sound I would like while they are running.

Depends on the vintage of Legacy engine. I believe 2011 and newer supports sound masking.

If your engines are capable of this (as Marty mentioned above), when you are in the process of building your Lash-up (or just address your Lash-up and press the "INFO" button) you will see the three icons in the 7, 8 & 9 positions of your Cab-2 key pad. Just press those buttons to make the changes you want.
Got it, thanks Harvey for clarifying. I wonder what the cut off date is for "newer vintage"?

As I said, 2011 time frame when they started to add the sequence control. I'm not sure if this corresponds to the arrival of the RCMC board.
I've got engines from 2008 that you can sound mask. 28281/80 UP Heritage SD70s.

Now that's interesting. We've been always told it came later. Rare Factory Find.

Another oddity with some engines, specifically my Legacy 6-38415 and 6-38416 engines. We actually had two sets of these at the club for a four engine MU, and for some reason the crew talk was coming out all of them. I got it to work by putting the crew talk on the trailing engine, for some reason then it didn't come out the other three. I dud gave the prime mover and the horn active on all of them. When you honk the horn and four engines all sound, it's pretty loud!
Hey Guys in a follow up to the above engines in the lash-up They were hardly smoking AT ALL I mailed JEB @jt mega steam and he suggested i put some ELIMINATOR in both engines and let sit overnite I let sit for 2 nites and WOW what a difference I fired up the lash-up and within 30 seconds my basement was FULL of SMOKE His products work GREAT !! Thanks JEB !!
Good morning guys !! I went home last nite and rebuilt the 2 steamer lashup and used those icons @bottom of cab 2 remote Now both engine blow whistles but I get cab chatter on both engines NOT VERY GOOD IDEA !! both engines talk @same time and is now all garbled and talking over each other ??? I rebuilt the lash-up back to original mode and both engines run fine !! Heres my QUESTION ??? Now my steam whistle on K-4 1361 # 6-11264 wont work ?? I used JT eliminator in smoke stack and it works great but NOW steam whistle wont smoke ??? Is there a seperate reservoir for the steam whistle or how does the steam pipe draw smoke fluid Does the smoke unit need to be turned on full to make whistle smoke ?? Could the pipe to whistle be clogged up ?? ANY IDEAS ?? thanks Gary
Move the cab chatter to the trailing engine, that's what I had to do to keep them from both talking.
As for whistle smoke, please be specific as to the exact model you're having issues with. The K4 has a separate smoke unit for the whistle smoke, haven't looked at the Berkshire.
That's weird. I could only get the announcements on one engine at a time.
Gunnrunner JOhn !! My k-4 is # 6-11264 PRR 1361 my berkshire doesnt have the smoke whistle I contacted Lionel CSR But agent wasnt real sure of her answers !!
Does the sand dome on top of boiler lift off ??Where is acsess to the reservoir ?? Thanks Gary !! NOTE :: The engine manual doesnt even mention the steam whistle !!
Yes, the dome comes off to add fluid. There are two separate smoke units in the K4.
From the product page for this locomotive.
