Let's see your layout skirting.

I use felt material on sale at the local fabric shop. I cut it in strips about as wide as the plastic bins I slide under the train layout. I overlap and it seems to work for me.

Perhaps solid color window curtains can be used.

I used black landscaping cloth, it was in expensive and I think look good.  I had a lot of area to cover and professional skirting was really expensive.

These skirts look good around a layout.

sorry on pics but my wife took denim and sewed a hem for the floor  and sewed hook velcor and Istapled the loop velcor to the side .This allows foraccessto under the layout storage. She is not much into trains but sure keeps me on the right path.Good luck on your skirt venture.

Now that is a great cost effective idea, I agree it does look very nice.

Our group is internet based so we had to use the expensive stuff. comes in different colors, lengths and pleat designs. Fire retardant labeleled which is a requirement at some shows.

For my small 5x8 layout, I only needed a covering for one 8' side. I used a sheet of wood wall paneling (Home Depot), sideways. The pattern is "wainscoting" which is uniform tongue-in-groove wood strips about 2" wide. It is held to the top of the layout with 3 small screws, so it only takes a few minutes to remove when needed.

I closed the space in and made doors out of cabinet grade 3/4 plywood and painted everything gloss black. About 50 feet plus so far. Still work in progress.

My girlfriend found quite a bit of this fabric @ work that they were throwing out. (Good price, LOL)

Back of the room, it helps when your mother-in-law is a seamstress

Not really skirting but I made panels out of T&G pine for my home layout. Color is Lionel creme

Shot of my small American Flyer layout with skirting my wife and I picked up at Walmart a few years back.  The skirting is certainly colorful and train related but I think a little too much so because it detracts from the layout.  Better than nothin' though.

It is FELT. Cheap as you can get and merely stapled on w/ heavy stapler. The idea behind a table skirt is that it is present without being noticed and hides stuff. From my theater training flat black is clearly the best color choice.

I used the landscape cloth on a few of my Christmas Layouts. It works out very well and is pretty cost effective.

I never thought it would look good on a permanent layout. But, it looks great on your layout!!

   On the Christmas living room layout, we always use the traditional green

felt skirting and the Christmas bows.

I went with neutral grey aluminum panels.  It is easy to vacuum clean in my unfinished basement.  I suspect that fabric might help more with noise reduction.

Well done Pine Creek Railroad. In this case the green was a superior choice. If it were in my house my wife would want to hang candy canes or stockings on the side....

Super small space available in our Florida home, had to make it look like it belonged.

I used wall paneling.  Two of the panels are held in place with magnetic catches and are removable for storage underneath.
