I bought a Lionel 6-11344 Greyhound 4-12-2 and when I first ran it ran great with everything working. Suddenly it lost all sound while moving which could be fixed by pressing the aux1 and the resets button on the cab2 controller. This worked for a little while but now as soon as the power is turned on the engine comes to life, but nothing works. No horn, bell, crew or tower com, whistle steam and the coupler doesn't work, and it won't move. I've tried the reset per the book but that didn't work either. I spoke with another O gauge member, and he said it sounded like the RCMC 691-RCMC-B01 Receiver board had probably gone bad. Is this something worth buyer from Lionel and installing myself to correct this problem or is something that should be sent to a Lionel repair person? I live in Southern California, and I haven't had good luck find a good repair person. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd probably let a tech look at it. Frequently, failures like this end up being pinched or broken wires, and replacing the board without correcting the underlying fault may cost you yet another $120 board.

Try the Train Shack in Burbank. They have a pretty good record for service.
rthomps & gunrunnerjohn Thanks for your reply's I live in the Temecula area and the only repair shop that was anywhere near me closed years ago. I used a guy in orange County that had my locomotive for a repair for 6 months and when I called to see if I could pick it up, he hadn't even started the repairs yet, so I picked it up and sent it back to the east coast. I've heard good and bad things about Train Shack, so I guess I keep sending them east for the best repairs.
Just a quick update on the 9000 I removed the shell and reset the RCMC Receiver board that plugs into the RCMC board and the handrail antenna's wires plug into the RCMC Receiver Board and that corrected my problem for now. I'll run it tomorrow to see if all is well for now. Gary
