Bob. This sad fact enters our train room from time to time. Your 'tronics are "shot" in this beast .. I suggest the A/C to D/C rectifier voltage. Anyway NO amount of old fashioned cussing will give your "bird" a new life.

PROFESSIONAL repair is in order. After 20 years of sitting .. it may be time. Here's a guy I like. His business is always busy .. I have never failed to be impressed.

This Dash-9 was equipped with Odyssey speed control.  If the feedback is not working the engine will accelerate to full speed.  The circuit thinks the motor is not turning and keeps raising voltage.  Quite often it s the magnetic tone ring on the top of the motor cracks.  Some people have had luck replacing just that, others elect to get an new motor for $32 which includes everything.
