How about offering a Warehouse Sale on the Internet? You have many customers west of the Mississippi that can not travel to the East Coast.

Chicago to NC is a long haul on a prayer and a promise there might be something there I like.
I do like your idea, although I think not having to ship may come into the equation.
I think that would be difficult without offending a whole lot of dealers.

Wouldn't the mere fact that they are having warehouse sales be potentially offensive to dealers anyway?
In addition to offending their dealer network, you just know that folks here would also expect free shipping. 
Go into any hobby shop and they are already upset with Lionel for having an online store, selling on Amazon...

I received the same email. The list I saw was not anything better than what I would consider a halfway decent pre-order price on any item.
I believe based on what others have posted, there were better prices to be had in person.
