Flip the base over and make sure the charger is on if you are using the rechargeable batteries supplied with it.....the switch is underneath just below the post where you hook up your track wire.....hope that helps......Pat
If the switch is set to charging and you’re using the correct batteries or if it is off and you’re using standard alkaline batteries that could be a bad charging board.
The same thing happened to mine, although it’s older than yours. I called Lionel and they gave me a RA number and shipping label to return it to them. The repair invoice states they replaced the charging board. It appears that that board is essential to not only charging the batteries but for the Cab-2 to work.
Just my $.02.

Fixed it. Thank you!

Well?...what was it?...don’t leave us hanging......lol........Pat
Hahah, battery probably but still think I screwed the channels up programming it. Also I had the screen on setting 1 so I could barely see. Either I’m an idiot which is possible or Lionel r-16s are a pain. I did use the orange module after I programmed it. Can’t get the power button to turn it on eventhough all of it functions when I use it. I hit engine then 1 then power and it doesn’t make that start up sound. I want to factory reset the whole thing. Can’t find that in their very unhelpful manual.
Well I’m glad you got it figured out, by replying with what you did to fix the issue, you may be helping the next guy/gal with a similar issue. When they use the search feature. No need to pick on yourself. Some things with the stuff can get complicated. ..................now get back to railroading! ............Pat
Out of curiosity: What the H___ is an r16 ????? Just so I’ll know when I see it next time??? LOL

Why do you keep holding the button down? You hold the power button down until it lights up then let go and the screen with appear. You are holding it down and not letting go. So essentially turning it off again.
“ I hit engine then 1 then power and it doesn’t make that start up sound.”
This sounds wrong. First you turn on the layout and tmcc base power, then you turn on the cab power by pressing the red button for about one second, now take your finger off that red button, then you press 1 while in engines and then press the lower left square on the key pad and the engine will start up.
Robert, theres lots of knowledgable folks on this forum.
It would help to slow down, and be more specific/descriptive about the problems your experiencing and what your doing when it happens.
Its difficult from your posts to figure out whats going on.
How can you be sure if its broken, if your not sure your operating it correctly? There are legacy help videos on this forum as well as youtube.
I got it figured out. I was using a cw80 transformer but failed to turn it all the way up. It fixed it. It’s working as it’s suppose to now.
The train is a Lionel R-16 Subway the Silver/Blue Stripe.
Thank you guys for the help.
It s great when it's a simple fix!
