Lionel Legacy Diesel seems slightly quiet

Hi all,

I just recieved a Lionel legacy h16-44 today off of ebay, and I performed all the pre-run procedures. I run the locomotive only to find that it isn't as loud as my gp7 and other engines. I've tried restoring the features and turning up the volume on the Legacy remote (both with and without using the Aux 1 key, and they function as they should) and nothing increased past its semi quiet level. I then pop open the roof hatch and adjust the master volume, and I found it wasn't all the way to the right. I adjust it, and nothing happens. I even try turning the master volume all the way DOWN, and nothing happens as well. 

Does anyone know what this could be the result of? A bad speaker? A bad board? Everything else on the engine works great. Thanks in advance!

FWIW, when I got my NS Dash 9 Legacy from the local train show, I too was slightly annoyed in that the horn was impressively loud, to the point you can darn near wake your neighbor thinking it's a real train, but the engine sounds were weak. I tried all the same things like you. Then I ran it at the local club track just the other day on their old TMCC remote and base and the engine sounds were louder than I ever remember at home (Legacy here at the house). I know that's a total non-answer and not very helpful, but I'm too watching this for whatever the fix might be.

The volume pot sets the volume max limit - what you didn't say is if you tried turning the volume pot all the way up and then electronically (using the remote volume control signals)  tried increasing the volume. 

Turn the volume pot all the way up (CW) and reset the loco, then try again. It is Legacy - you should be able to get it to roar.

I'll try some more today but I have had no luck with that strategy. I'll try anything

If you have the Legacy model the switch/pot assembly is only $17 from Lionel if you find it bad.  The pot itself is only $3.50 if you have some soldering skills/equipment.  I would check the connections at the pot and the board and check for a pinched wire when you remove the cab.  Please post which H16-44 model you have so we can better assist.
