After replacing the smoke unit assembly on my GP9 it’s a smoking monster.

Lot of smoke, looks like a trip to the shop for a prime mover overhaul! 
Normally, you can restore a smoke unit with a new wick, maybe a new resistor, and a few minutes at the bench. Other than ones that have truly gone up in smoke, or zinc rot gets, I don't replace whole smoke units.

I understand your position. This is the second Smoke Emergency on this engine. ( I run and enjoy it a lot). The first time I had to replace the fan. In doing so I realized I had to remove the entire Smoke Unit Assembly to replace the fan. After the resistor fizzled out, I just purchased an entirely new Assembly. Four screws and re-attaching a wire and I was done. No workbench time required. For me, it was faster to do it this way. I like fast, I like easy. When I have time, I can always go back to the original Assembly and replace the resistor.
