I recently purchased a used Lionel 6-11152 Legacy Lionmaster Challenger.  Everything works correctly in the forward direction but in reverse it almost never chuffs (I get a few intermittent chuffs here and there).  If I brake while in reverse there is no brake-squeal sound, and if I press the crewtalk button in reverse the engineer asks for clearance to depart instead of "how's the track look ahead."  Would this be a bad "cherry switch," or could something else be wrong.  If it is the cherry switch, how do I get to it?

Thanks for the help.  John

GRG, the cherry switch IS on the front truck.  When I removed the boiler from the frame I noticed some slop between the front motor and the truck.  So I dropped the truck, re-seated the liondrive coupling (shown in photo 1), reassemble the truck to the motor and everything works fine now.

I do have another issue you might be able to help me with.  I have a 6-11149 Legacy LionmMaster Big Boy (UP # 4006).  This engine has the worm drive motors (see pic 2) instead of the "Liondrive" that my Challenger has (see pic 3).  I dropped the front truck on that engine because it was binding some at very slow speeds but when I reassembled it the motor-to-truck fit is so tight that it hardly runs at all before binding up.  Any suggestions?

123Thanks.  John
