Can anyone tell me if any rechargeable battery can be used in the Lionel Legacy Remote???
I don't want to ruin the Remote. So some advice would be greatly appreciated.
The old batteries quit working.
Thanks,

Timothy,
Though my response doesn't exactly address your question I figured I'd provide input to spur other's responses.
I've heard differing answers on this one. Some say that any rechargeable is fine to use while some say only those that Lionel provides. I would think that if the output power is the same, any other brand would be fine.
Personally, I simply use Lithium AA's and have put black tape over the charging trigger as I don't care for the heat generated, stress on the base internals and I don't use the remote enough to warrant the risk. The lithiums last a really long time for me.
I'm using the Tenergy Centura low self-discharge type, they charge fine in both the #990 and the #993 charger.
Timothy,
As usual Guns gives great advise, Tenergy Centura Batteries will get the job done quite well, they charge & recharge nicely in the Cab2, via the 990 Legacy Base unit. Picked this info up from Guns also a while back, when my base unit was having problems.

The tenergy centura link lists them rated at 2000 mAh. Lionel's are 2500 mAh. Any decrease in performance?
Terry
Hard to say, I'm happy with their performance, but I never did a "rundown" test if that's what you're asking.
I've got Energizer NiMH rechargeables in all 4 of my remotes. Charge great, last a really long time and don't discharge very fast.
Ditto on the Energizer NiMH rechargeables. I've been using them for a long time without issue.

I believe any of the quality batteries are fine. I use energizer also in my remotes.
It is the el cheap o and knock offs that I think can be at issue. Lack of quality control and unknown materials can cause issues once the battery gets some use on it.
Otherwise we are splitting hairs on what color of blue we like. G
