I've been trying to locate a manual for the 6-38616 Mikado Jr. with no luck. Does anybody know the PN for the smoke box front and if it is available anywhere? Thanks.

The place to look for Lionel parts is, of course, the Lionel website, under "Support", then "Replacement Parts".
Your part number is: 6308616021
Unfortunately, this time, Lionel lists it as "unavailable".
Da Bay has lots of parts; a part that might do may be there.
Thanks, and yes that is the part. There is a Mikado on epay with a missing smokebox front and the hand rail stanchions are snapped off on the left side. Was just wanting to know if the repair parts could be found, I guess not from Lionel.

This is where Lionel's new website really stinks. These were in the 2008 catalog. Can't see it now. So, there may be another roadname (Lionel product number) that has the part available. It may have a different number plate.
You can get stanchions from some of the brass suppliers that the scale builders use.
I would call Lionel to find out if they can cross the model run and have a boiler front available.

Please let us know if you are able to find the part.
I think the general availability of parts for recently made trains pales in comparison to what was available when trains were sold in larger numbers and made here in the USA.
I find that its easier to get a part for a fifty year old train than it is to get a part for something made recently.
S&W has a lot of hard to find parts.
Here are the Mikado Jr boiler fronts available after searching Lionel's replacement parts. 26 + 10 shipping. Get some smoke wicks with your order.
I'd say the 9631 PRR looks like a winner.
I would also ask the seller if it has been tested to run and function properly.

Here's the stanchions p.22 8" or 9" cored. You'll have to measure. They may need to insulated if the handrail is the antenna. Depends which side was used for the antenna.
Can you tell I was bored this morning?
I want to see a video of it repaired and running.

Again fellers, thanks, have 4 hours to see if I want to chance it and bid.
From CW "I find that its easier to get a part for a fifty year old train than it is to get a part for something made recently."
It is easier to find NOS parts to fix a radio from the 30's than it is one from the 70's or later. Many integrated circuits designers fell in love with in the 70's and beyond were custom or limited run and are what we call 'unobtanium' today. This is something all the fancy electronics in the modern trains will face and there won't be many Lionel or MTH from this era running 50 years from now like a 50 year old Lionel is today.
There is also another TMCC jr. Mikado item # 6-11100 that is (I think) exactly alike cosmetically. They have the smokebox front for $16. Here is the link to the parts site.

You might also find those handrail stations that you need. Good luck with your auction.

I ordered the part from Lionel and did receive it, and it was the correct number too. Will just make the stanchions on the Sherline. Won that loco for the minimum bid, checked it out and it works fine, even my MTH controller runs the sounds too. It does not like my homemade operating sections that operate signals by using one insulated outside rail. Doesn't stop, just messes up the sounds of the moment. Will try running it the other way, maybe there is an issue with which common wheel needs ground. I've been fairly lucky picking and choosing things on epay. I'll write sellers and diplomatically question their shipping rates and starting bids if I think they are out of the norm, may have to wait until they relist it, but sometimes save a ton, like I did on this loco. One item I am interested in has a $65 shipping rate, but when I asked him if he could do better on shipping to my zipcode, he said sure, and lowered it to $35 which was right on for the weight and size of the unit(not RR related). Never hurts to ask sellers, especially if they have listed the same thing over and over with no bites. If they won't budge and it is just more than you want to pay, chalk it up to you were not supposed to get that thing anyway.
Hey, that's good news. You could try putting the 9v alkaline battery in the tender. That may stop the sound cut-out.
It doesn't charge like MTH, so you have to check it once in while or remove it for storage.
Run the wheels off of it! have fun.
