Manual, page 35, states that they recommend having tires replaced by authorized service center because the truck and side frames have to be removed.
Can this be done by just a regular person who can use a screwdriver?

@Jeff2035 I just did an OGR search on your subject of replacement of rubber on engines.
So I recommend you to do the same. A common question with many hits on the same subject.
I use the search often on lots of crazy thoughts and queries an enjoy finding lots of answers in our Forum.

I did a search and while there are many posts regarding traction tires there was nothing specific to replacing the traction tires on a Lionel scale GG1. The manual states you have to remove the trucks and side frames and suggests having a repair center doing it.
I would like to do it myself and I am hoping there is some help from Forum members who have done this repair before.

Since you can remove the sideframes without removing the shell, I would think an ordinary mortal could do it. I've included the instructions from Henning's for when you replace the sideframes on the JLC model. Obviously, removing and replacing the sideframes will be the same, just no replacement.
