Lionel VL electro coupler wire fix?

Took apart my VL genset to fix a broken wire on the coupler but just want to be sure to ask if it matters which of the 2 leads from the coil is positive. It's a simple 2 wire +\- hookup but ya never know with these finicky electronics on board. Thanks!

Consider the coupler like a light blub, there is no connection to the frame of the coupler.
