LIRR Passenger Cars White Livery

Yes, that paint scheme began to disappear in the 1990s...I remember it quite well. But...where they actually painted white? I know the diesels were but the cars seem to be more grey then white, unless it is just really dirty white. 

They were a light grey--parlor cars later had a red stripe. Engines were white and blue.

Definitely a gray as opposed to white. More often than not a dark shade of filth.

Light grey.  I rode them everyday from Jamaica to Hunters Point.  I believe the paint was Navy surplus from Zophar Mills in Brooklyn.

Used to see lots of this paint on the Oyster Bay line in the late 60’s and 70’s.

And prior to retirement the last scheme was the stripe below the windows - this one has the lettering though:

Please note in this above shot the white of the GP38-2 does not match the light gray of this P72. Also observe the car coupled to it at left has a window stripe.

At the end of their service they only had the stripe with the 'M' or 'MTA ball' logo at the end:

Thanks so much for the information. Still wondering why MTH would produce pure white cars. Perhaps I should weather mine with something that would come closer to these photos.
