I just received a beautiful set of Lionel scale F3s. Unfortunately, one of the shells has an oily substance on it that appears to be smoke fluid. Any suggestions about the best way to remove it? Thanks

You will want to be sure what the substance is. If it is around the smoke outlets than as you infer, common sense suggests it is fluid. Lionel / MTH I have simply wiped the fluid off with a soft cloth, multiple passes often with a clean section of the cloth to remove it all. I use the microfiber cloths, the softest you can find is best. No guarantee what happens of course since you are not sure of what it is...........

paper towel or soft rag does the trick for me
- Cleans smoke fluid spills, finger prints, smudges, etc.
- Removes dust and grime without leaving residue
- Safe on all plastic and metal locos and rolling stock
- Will not harm decals or finish
- Environmentally friendly - no harmful chemicals
- Convenient pump-spray bottle
- Developed, tested, and packaged in the U.S.A.

Megasteam has a new cleaner, B-Gone. we picked some at York, works great
Thanks NCT (Watson M.) and JohnS. We are very pleased to announce that our special cleaner,
"b-Gone,"is available on-line at our web site: www.megasteam.com. We found that there was indeed a need for a safe cleaner to take care of those little smoke fluid spills, finger prints, dust, and smudges. As careful as we all are, these things do happen from time to time.
We are confident that you will be very pleased with our product as it does what it is designed to do. See our ad in the upcoming issue of OGR. Thanks for your support for our products.

I've used Dawn dishwashing liquid and a soft cloth for cleaning many shells, never had a problem. The only thing you have to be careful with any cleaner is decals, they frequently won't even handle plain water.

Mark,
"Environmentally friendly"...totally 100% biodegradeable: no Di-Limonene or citrus based ingredients. We researched and worked on this project for almost 18 months and then tested our proprietary formula on our own locomotives. Then we had others test the product before releasing it to the public. Spills and smudges have been issues in the hobby since it started. We wanted something that would be strong enough to do the job, but not harm the plastic or metal locomotive shells, and also be friendly to the environment. Mega-Steam has a long-term relationship and reputation with our customers. We wanted a product that would compliment our product line and solve this issue. Thanks for asking the question.
just adding-in as yet another satisfied b-Gone / JT's Mega-Steam customer. The stuff just works.
Thanks to everyone for the help. Will order the b-Gone.
