I have the UP S2 (6-82127).  Overall I am unimpressed.  The speaker is incredibly weak.  It was a real let down because I have come to expect Legacy engines to have the best sound systems in the business.

I found the trucks to be bereft of detail.  The trucks look like something you would find on a Lion Chief engine not a Legacy engine.

The bracket for the back-up battery and the red and black battery wires are inside the cab and visible.  I don't install batteries, so I removed the battery clip and cut the wires.

In the end I give the engine a C.  In all likelihood, had I seen the engine before ordering I would not have purchased it.  The lone silver lining (and this is a stretch) is that there just are not many legacy switch engines, and since there aren't many options this engine will get lots of playtime.

That is just my opinion, I am no expert and I only know what I like, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

Lots of opinions, good, not so good, etc....I have the Chicago & Northwestern, Green and Yellow version, which was the first to be Offerred by Lionel..Several of us pre-ordered this same road number....They all run fine, the sounds are great and really prototypical....The smoke unit works fine....Yes, there is a wide coupler opening for folks with 031 or 036 or 042 curves...Please remember, Lionel is trying to Please a large group of operators.....If you like neat smaller Legacy Switchers, and you do not have really wide radius curves, this is the Answer...Being in 3 rail, I have come to the conclusion, there is no perfect engine, even the latest VL Big Boy. It's very very nice, fun to run, but, I bet there are good and not so good opinions about it, and look at the cost.... So, for the money, the S2 Switcher is a bargain. Enjoy. Happy Railroading....
