I had trouble with this engine before, but it was completely my inexperience with TMCC/Lionel Engines that was the problem(see post).

But this time it seems different. It now seems that all sound has stopped on this RS-11. If I get everything in the room completely quiet, I can ever so faintly hear the horn. Tried turning sound up using remote and also dial on the bottom of engine but no luck. My guess is the speaker may be bad? Once again, thanks for any help.

Where did it lose sound, over a turnout, maybe a dirty section of track? It may need to be "restarted" AUX1-3. The newer legacy stuf is especially sensative to dirty track/rollers and power dropouts where power is lacking on certain brands of turnouts.

A quick reset is aux1-0. Instructions for a "hard reset" are located near the back of the owners manual "reprogramming locomotive to restore features."

This may not be the problem but, FYI there are 2 volume levels accessable via the remote:

Aux1-3 (up), 3(up), 3(up)....... for overall volume

Aux1-3(up), Aux1-3(up), Aux1-3 (up)......... for background sounds

3 if your using TMCC, (UP) for vol up on the legacy controller.

The #3 position on TMCC is the same as the vol UP on the legacy contoller.

It is a TMCC engine and I just have TMCC controller. It lost sound and about 3 days later it came back! Then while pushing a few cars around yesterday day the sounds went out. It very well might have happened when over a switch as it was working in my industries.

I did try the AUX/0 to reset but nothing happened. I have tried Aux1 then 1 to raise the volume also with no success.

I might look into the "hard reset".

Thanks again guys.

Tried the "hard reset" and still nothing.

The engine does respond to the remote Aux1 1 and 3 volume controls. It just goes from barely audible(you really have to be listening for it)  to nothing at all.

Also when I turn the volume dial control down on the bottom of the engine, I can't get any sound regardless of how much I try to turn them up with the remote.

I am wondering if tere is an issue with the dial on the bottom of the engine.

Everyone, thanks so much for your time and help. I took the fuel tank off to look the speaker and volume dial. Then I realized that unless there is a loose wire or something easily noticeable, I haven't a clue what I am looking for so, I put it right back on....put it on track and now sounds loud and fine. I have no idea what happened or what I did but I hope it is fixed but I have a bad feeling that sooner or later it will happen again.
