Nice job Menards!  Love all the new stuff

Agreed, Bossman284.

I would want several of the NS flatcars.  The tiny, non-scale Saturn V rocket really makes no sense on what is a fine looking flatcar.

I might wait and see if Menard's has a Winter Holiday sale on trains. I am amazed how they went last year to a big competitior, watch out MTH, Lionel and Bauchmann.

Lionel and MTH probably are not to concerned with what Menards has been doing for the past 18 months or so. But Menards certainly has pulled some bucks away from the other manufactures plus could even become a bigger player in 2016.

Menards is quietly becoming the new Weaver/K-Line of O gauge railroading.  They have found a niche and are doing a great job of satisfying it.  When you can supply what people want, at a very competitive price, with great customer service, you have a winning combination.  What's not to like?

  • Unique car numbers
  • Lowest prices
  • True 1:48 scale die-cast vehicles
  • Unique buildings
  • Weathered buildings and cars
  • Advertising in all magazines & forum
  • Real person on the forum that will answer questions
  • Owner that is a model railroader

It's fun to watch.

I made a trip to Menards in Southern Ohio this past Sun. My wife and I like the store and also picked up a new B&O box car. new car for less than what you would pay at a train show or flea market for sure. I think Menards is what you would call a souped up version of Lowes or Home Depot. I will be going back, as their O Gauge stuff that was left had been well picked over, but they will probably replentish their supply with Christmas coming soon...................Brandy!

Tim,

To the best of my knowledge, the panel cars Chevys from the late 1930s. The dimensions are roughly 3-3/4" long x 1-3/8" wide x 1-3/8" high.

Anybody out there interested in splitting this set up as I only have an interest in the tank flat cars

JBDB,

Splitting with other forum members is an excellent option!

We do sell the tanks by themselves (click here) however, the single flatcars with tanks are very limited.

I don't need the lights and sound so I didn't want to buy 6 or 8 of them....

JBDB,

The flatcars with tanks have lights and sound, just like the individual flatcars. I will make sure that feature is more clear in the description on our website.

Thanks for all the cool products.

Bill,

At this time, we do not have plans for Norfolk Southern flatcar. However, I will be the first to admit that it is hard to overlook the demand for a NS flatcar. Fingers crossed!

Bill,

Sorry for the confusion, I was answering your question "Any chance the NS flats will be available without loads." If you are wondering about a super set of NS flatcars with Rocket, I'm sure they will be available sometime next week.

Here is a tip.  Menards ads usually end on a Sunday unless they are doing an 11% rebate week, then they end on Saturday and the rebate starts Sunday.  Their current ad ends Saturday the 24th.  Sunday the 25th might be a good day to shop for trains.

FWIW I don't know for certain if you can get thr 11% rebate on online purchases or not.  I have never done it.

During rebate week, online sales are also included. Fill out the appropriate form and Menards will send you the rebate postcard good for in store purchase.

I had an initial run of the 24 pack with the lousy couplers.  I modified them per a member of this forum, painted them OD green, got some decals from a forum sponsor and some cool Corgi tanks off eBay.  Chocks were made per an article in The Lion Roars.  It takes a village to build cool flat car loads.

wb47,

I could speak all day about how much better our trucks and couplers are this year but I think it would mean more if another forum member who has our new flatcars could answer that for you.
