Happy Wednesday to one and all. Midweek photos is a thread we start to share the real railroading world we encounter in one form or another. Get your photos together for a chance to add some to this week's compilation. The above photo, taken on December 4, shows a heavy frost and some fog that greeted us that morning. Within an hour, both would burn off.
December 4 is also the day we found some contractors working in Steamtown's restoration facility in the former DL&W locomotive shop. This portion of the building, added in 1949, did not get a track added until around 1992 or so, when the National Park Service decided to make the bay part of the restoration shop. In the sandblast booth, DL&W caboose no. 889 was getting a new coat of paint. This is not a full restoration, but more of a stabilization.
A couple days later, we find she is painted in the paint booth. The reddish color she has worn since 1996 is replaced with a darker, brick red/brown shade. By the end of the week, she was stenciled. I have not seen it outside yet to get a photo of the complete project.
on Sunday, December 17, we caught the F3 locomotives, also in Lackawanna RR colors, getting a bit of a workout in the Scranton yard. This was a break-in run for 664, which has been under repair, as well as a qualifying run for some of the train crew to stay current with the physical characteristics of the route between Scranton and Delaware Water Gap, PA.
With luck, this video of the diesels running past will post.
Now for you to add to the thread. Since I will most likely not post again until next Wednesday, have a Merry Christmas to you and your family! Enjoy your holiday. Next Wednesday is the annual review of the Midweek Photos. Start looking through your files for something to contribute!
