I just received a conformation 2 light blink so apparently the smoke element went to smoke heaven.

does anyone know what they used in these is there a better choice as this makes the second one that's gone poof.

if there is a better or an exact replacement can I walk into radio shack and get one?

thanks for any help,

I agree with Nicole, 1 blink indicates a stalled motor. I experienced this error code when my legacy k4 crossed over onto an unpowered siding where I hit the power toggle a second too late.

Powering them off resets the code as does the reset button, if the code doesn't reappear your fine. I would guess any electrical glitch such as mine mentioned above or even dirty track could potentially cause a "false code". If you loco runs fine and the code is wrong don't worry about it.

Should you ever need a smoke resistor or anything else for your s3 you can find it here.

sorry all my bad i meant to say 2 blinks which is a smoke element problem.

Nicole your correct as to what blinks mean what, as to my fingers they are bad wonder if there is a senior reset button!

RickO thanks for the information and link to the part if I ever need it. the engine runs fine am guessing it's going to be like my S-3 it too will give me 3 blinks now and then. if I shut it down and then upon restart do the reset button all is well again go figure.

I have to say I have the GS-4 legacy thought it was the best then the 765 came along way better whistle then the S-3 thought this even better than the GS-4 now the at&sf northern I love it sound wise even more!

the GS-4 is on a siding and so are the mth engines I have as they sound anemic compared to these 3 legacy engines. and I thought the wire for the bell on the 3751 was for show only! now I know how Rich did the bell ringing illusion on his video.

how cool would it be if it could be made to move from inside the cab? common all you electronic guru's I've seen some pretty amazing things they have created.
