would two feet of walk around space be adequate Not with my railroad buddies!    Actually 24 inch is barely adequate to squeeze by, and it really depends on how protected the LAYOUT is at that narrow point. 30 inch is minimal but 36 works for most situations.  The exception would be if you have stationary operator areas then those need just a little more elbow room.  My 2 cents worth.  Russ

Hi JPC,

You said 080, 2x did you mean 090? Around the walls or do you mean a large island layout. For around the walls  one could get by with 30-36" in the corners as the curves take up real estate. Along the straight always 24" deep will work for benchwork if your going to have 3 track straight aways and squeeze in sidings and scenery.

How big is your room? You might want to invest into a track software program such as RR Track. For an island layout I like aisle widths off 24-36" wide I can squeeze into 18" with hard to reach places but 18" is not enough for visitors.

Best of luck!

Thank you for the information on the free space

i am going to finish an attic, and the comment about the footprint from sea coast concerning track software is something I have thought about, but I use apple products and to my knowledge not much available

as to size, into the center of a room as a rectangle with minimum O72

thinking of using Ross curves and they build in 8 inch increments
