Funny you should ask the question about which paint I used.  Yes, you are correct, I am a Floquil guy.  Love their weathering colors.  This guy used three colors, grime, mud, and grimy black, sprayed in that order.  I use a Pasche model H brush, with the medium tip.

But this guy went a little different.  If you look further down this forum, you will see my A-3.  That guy used only grime and grimy black,  everything sprayed flawlessly.

Them came this exercise.

I was spraying right along, no problems with the grime and mud.  Then it came time to spray the grimy black.  Started spraying test patterns after mixing, could not get the stuff to regulate properly.  It wouldn't cover worth a darn either once I started spraying the locomotive.   The tip was clogging up.  I was getting ****ed.  I figured I didn't thin it enough.  So, I thinned it with the enamel thinner ( the newer Floquil stuff).  Things got marginally better, but I still could not control it.   Let out a flow of vernacular that would make a sailor blush.  The tip started to clog again.  Then I smelled the faint smell if alcohol in the paint.

I had done a project about a month ago that I sprayed Polly Scale grimy black on.  The stuff will spray OK if you are using the air brush as a blunt instrument instead of a precision device.  I picked up the wrong bottle, knew it was Grimy Black, just didn't look at the label (the bottles are pretty much identical).    Threw the crap in the waste container, recharged with Floquil, and all was good in the world again.

To answer your question on Floquil, I stocked up.  I have about 12 bottles if grimy black, and 3 bottles each if grime, dust, and mud.   Check E-bay, you should be able to find it there, and as if about two months ago, Testors was still shipping.

I really don't like Polly Scale at all, won't miss it except for the occasional project.  I far prefer Badger ModelFlex, but I have to play more with that too.  Don't know what they have that aligns with the Floquil weathering colors though.

Regards,
Jerry
