MTH DCS Remote screen replacement? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Is it possible to replace the screen only in an MTH DCS remote handheld unit? If so, is it more economical than buying a new remote?

My remote only shows partial (bottom) display. I screwed up and left it outside overnight exposed to the elements.

It can be done with a little skill. The problem is finding one. MTH does not sell or stock these. I was fortunate enough to find a very kind forum member who had some bad remotes with good screens and was willing to send me a couple.

Drop a line to Marty Fitzhenry, he has a graveyard of bad remotes, maybe he can get you a screen.

FWIW, a grandson shattered my remote on a concrete floor. I thought screen had failed. Sent it to MTH for a screen replacement (they apparently had them in those days), but they found a broken wire.

I would suggest opening up the remote and letting it sit for a few days to allow it to dry out, before undertaking repairs.

MTH has scrape remotes too, so they can cannibalize to repair, while an item may not be sold as a replacement part. G
