I just received my MTH DCS WiFi Unit today. It takes some getting used to but so far so good. I hope the updated App becomes available soon since I would like to control my switches and accessories from my iPhone as well. I did lose control when it went into another room where I have my train yard which is using another TIU. Does anyone know if the WiFi works in super TIU mode? Anyone else receive theirs recently and what are you thoughts?

The Pro version of the app isn't expected until next Spring, perhaps April.

You'll need the Pro version of the app to use Super TIU mode. The app behaves just like a remote that's set to Normal TIU Mode.
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
Rich G how did you get your Wifi already. Hope they are available this week. Tom
I pre-ordered it from my local train shop, "Trains and Things" in Ewing Twp., NJ and the owner, Tony called me and said it was in. He received an entire box of them and I was the first one to pick it up on Friday, December 18th. Interesting that I had called MTH earlier that day and was told that it would not be in for a couple weeks so when Tony called me it took me by total surprise. I opened it at the store and realized that I needed a USB to serial adapter to make the connection to my TIU (available at Radio Shack $26). The only problem I had when connecting it was that I had to disconnect another serial connection which allowed me to use my Lionel Acela through another device with that TIU. I don't know if there is a way to have a cord which allows two serial connections together, plug into the base of the TIU so that I can use both the Wi Fi and Lionel device together through the same TIU. Maybe Barry can shed some light on that issue. Still getting use to the new App but when you get yours, be careful with the speedometer since it can go to 120 quickly by accidently touching the screen. I have done that twice already.
Hope yours comes in time for Christmas. Sorry for the slow response, have been doing Christmas things like going to NYC and the NJ HiRailers open house, etc...
Rich,
All you need is a serial Y cable splitter, available on Amazon for a few dollars.
Get a cable with one male end and two female ends. Plug the male end into the TIU, creating two new female ports for your two cables.
Barry, thanks for a quick response. I just did not want to purchase one and find out that it would not work. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
Rich
Imperial Trains here in Pittsburgh received theirs on Saturday. They are out there. If my TIU wasn't packed away in a box there would have been one less.
Just got mine! Less than 30 min to setup, works great but free version is very limited so I bought the 4.99 upgrade, better.
Found the engine to be very responsive and had no issues. It's great to have a color screen that is very readable for us 'older' guys
Just got ours today found out the TIU is a older model had to get a rs232 adapter cable from Best Buy. Wow just did a test run so far so good. Can't wait to learn more tomorrow easy to use. Tom
Glad you guys are able to make this work.... The MTH website says the unit is 25mm by 35 mm. That seems very small? How much space does it really need?
Thanks
David,
How much space does it really need?
Just its footprint plus clearance for the USB and power cables, and the screw-on, flip-up antenna..
Mine also works as advertised. nice product. Though when I try to slide my sound volumes the screen wants to
rotate or slide left or right. I have to poke at it to change it. I'm using a galaxy droid. Can't wait for the next version
where I can control track power...
Stoshu...

The actual dimensions are 3 inches by 5 inches. Verified by measuring the WI FI unit.
Picked up mine yesterday. Easy to hook up and works terrific on my layout. Looking forward to the additional apps.
Hi! I am keen to try this. Have one ordered. Hope it arrives soon!
Thanks for the size info Barry and Pro Hobby. I agree it should not take up much space. The MTH website lists the size (25x35) as millimeters rather than centimeters and that would be very small. Since I am building an electrical panel i wanted to make sure i left the correct amount of space for the wi-fi unit.

Is it possible to use the mth wifi and Lionel wifi from my iphone at the same time? My guess is that I will have to choose one or the other for an operating session bc the phone cannot connect to two wifis simultaneously.
David,

Absolutely, as long as the Lionel LCS and all of the MTH WIUs are all connected to your home network.

Barry: Some time ago I reported having Wi-Fi sign on problems and finally located the culprit. It was my wireless cameras. You suggested trying one camera at a time and I learned that only one camera interfered with my ability to sign on using my iPad. Apparently the frequency used by that camera was causing an interference. You suggested that I try switching the two cameras which I did and again the problem only surfaced when that one camera was plugged in. Sorry for the late response but I had computer problems with Windows 10 and had to do a complete system recovery and install everything back on my computer. That took several days.
Rich G.
Rich,
That would indicate that the one camera that caused the problem is probably broadcasting on the WiFi band a bit out of spec. You might consider contacting the camera company about a replacement.
Barry: good thought.
