Hi all,

While I had been on hold to save funds to acquire my desired Atlas O track, I noticed a large lot of MTH Realtrax in the FS section (dangerous place that forum is). So much so I thought I would give it a try and at least experiment with it until my skills improved. My question is if anyone out there knows of a mth library for the SCARM software. I have been using SCARM for my sons fasttrack layouts and my future atlas design and although its not the best out there, its hard to match the price.   So if anyone has any links or hints, I would appreciate it.

I believe that the reason they [track plan softwares] are ignored by MTH is because they have an agreement with RR Track who provides the Software that MTH includes with its train sets ... FMH

Ace, It would be nice if Any rail allowed one to make custom track...

Actually, you can, sort of. Although AnyRail doesn't have an MTH track library, I made my own "library" for an example shown above. Before laying track I made "templates" of the MTH pieces (the sections that don't match standard-O dimensions) using custom-curved "filler" pieces based on the angle and estimated radius, and saved that plan as a separate file. Then the custom track pieces can be copied easily to use on a new layout plan, which can be saved as a separate file to preserve the original "templates".

Ill tell you what, I did not have the MTH librarys in the anyrail software. I wish they would put these setups in there because I dont know if I can use it for what I have now.  guess in the future, ill be getting altas or other. but I too found great deals on the realtrax to replace my old 027 tubular, so that is what I got.   Eventually, Originally Posted by Jace633:

If the "agreement" w/ RR Track provides exclusivity to RR Track, I wonder if MTH would actively look to broaden the exposure of their track/accessory libraries since despite promises that a new version is being worked on, RR Track has not provided an update to MTH's Club Member track planner lite in over 3 years.

The comments at SCARM are read by the author. I sent him a link of this thread. You may get MTH in the future.

It appears that the author of SCARM is in Bulgaria, and the free software covers many different model railroad track systems for different countries, especially European. He could probably use some help in figuring out the geometry of the MTH track, if anyone wants to volunteer. Whether MTH would approve of this, I don't know.

  • Hello dear friends,

I want to introduce my freeware layout design program, called SCARM, which you can download and test from www.scarm.info/index_en.html. It has lightweight and intuitive user interface, 3D view and many other cool functions and features. I will appreciate any comments concerning SCARM here or by email – scarm at scarm dot info. I was not sure where to post this topic, so I do it here - please excuse me if I'm violating some of the forum rules.

Update:

The author (Milen Peev) requested track specifications from MTH on 2/14/2012. Awaiting a response. Otherwise, it would be there.

I just discovered that MTH sells their own software. perhaps that's an issue.

I pointed him to the MTH Euro site to determine if the catalog track information there is sufficient to build the library.

If you Real and Scale Trax users would like the library, it may take measuring the pieces and providing him with the data as a last resort.

Nudged him on the scenery objects also.

Lets hope he can get the specs. Heck I would be happy having a library combining the atlas 054,072 curves, with the fastracks 30, 10 and 5.5 straights that exist with some of the "custom" 3.5, 5 inch straights and then the custom 031, 042 curves and the matching switches. the RR Track has the Realtrax components list that it uses listed on its site.

I am attempting a layout for my mth with combination of the two but the angles of 45 vs. realtrax 42 are tricky to plan out.

BTW Thanks ACE for your attempts and what you do for the forum. I see alot of responses from you on other posts helping others.

Jace633,

SCARM currently has 9 Atlas tracks 2(2 O scale) and 4 Lionel tracks in the library. You can switch libraries while building to mix the track pieces.

Thanks, Jace633. He may be able to get what he needs. I forwarded the info.

Why would MTH have any say about it?  I don't think MTH could stop someone from making a library for track planning software if they wanted to.

Hello all

Last time when I saw this topic, I was not registered in the forum. But one month ago, I decided to register and to present SCARM officially here - see Hello from the author topic

If anybody wants to help me with creating of MTH libraries for SCARM, please write to me at SCARM e-mail. I tried to contact cooperthebeagle from the Hello topic, but he may not received my e-mails. Moonman also helped me with info, but it was not enough to create the libraries.

So I am searching for somebody, who owns real MTH track pieces. Drop me an e-mail and I will provide you with simple instructions how the tracks can be measured. Once this is done for all tracks, I will publish the preliminary libs to be checked and tested by the forum members. If everything is OK, I will include the libs in official SCARM installation package to be available for everybody
