Gents,

I have a MTH 30-1393-1  4-8-2 railking loco.  I had just replaced the tether because of a broken tach wire.  I did notice before this happened that the engine would run smoother in reverse than it does going forward, especially at slow speeds 3-5smph.  It seems as the drivers get to a certain point in there revolution the loco pauses ever so slightly and then proceeds.  Like I said it doesn't do this in reverse.  The problem also gets worse as the consist gets bigger.  I have lubed up all the recommended points, and none of my other loco's do this.

Any idea's?

You might make sure that the tach reader is the appropriate distance from the flywheel (1-2mm, if memory serves) and that the tape on the flywheel has not discolored.

Also that not plugs are loose on the PS-2 board.

I have a Little Joe that hesitated and ran in a jerky fashion.  I took the shell off and found the tach reader was a bit to far away from the flywheel.  Moving it in slightly (I think I just bent the part holding it-it has been quite a while since I did this), cured the problem completely.
