I recently upgraded my MTH non-PS S2 turbine with a PS2 upgrade kit. That process went very well, and the resulting loco looks, sounds and runs great. I was confused a bit by the sound file - the engine chuffs. I thought it would hiss, or something along those lines. In the sound settings, Proto Chuff is available, and Chuff Settings from 1 chuff per rev to 16 chuffs per rev. Does anyone have experience with S2 Turbine sounds, either MTH or Lionel? If I have the correct sound file, what chuffs per rev setting would be best? THANKS

I used the Imperial RK PRR Turbine sound set when I upgraded my 3rd Rail S-2 Turbine. I found that setting the chuff rate very high, maybe 10+ gave a more continuous whoosh as opposed to a chuff. I don't remember the exact rate that I settled on, but I recommend that you experiment. I am very satisfied with the results.

I just did this upgrade also.  If you search the MTH Web and click on the Sound File links, you will see different files, there are quite a few.  Most are for the Bantam version.  There is only one RK full size version sound file and it is the one Chug mentioned.  The PSA sound bite is interesting!  G

This has been discussed before. The turbine is not susposed to chuff. There are two sets of sound files, a 5 volt version and a 3 volt version for 5 and 3 volt systems. The 5 volt version chuffs and the 3 volt does not. The last I heard MTH did not wish to change the 5 volt version. Maybe somebody knowing more will comment.
