This is a really nice offering (limited to 125). Take a look at the video, the proto 3 sounds on this are a big improvement over the proto 2 versions offered in the past (I have 5 or 6 of the proto 2 ones now).

Based on the similarity (seems identical except for the lettering), I'd be very surprised if these were not the engines originally intended for that purpose.  (the project apparently was cancelled for reasons unknown to most of us)

Yup, the MTH ten-wheeler is a 1:29 replica of the Walter E. Disney.  I was quite disappointed it never made it to market, an O-gauge Disney Park train has always been something I wanted.  When the price on second-hand engines comes down I'll get one and repaint it, eventually.  I have many happy memories of the Walt Disney World railroad.

Here is the link to the MTH website and more info on the engines and photos.

Yes when I saw the MTH post I thought it looked like the Disney engine and would be easy to redecal over the tender.

Here is a photo of the real engine;

I think it would look great with a set of MTH old passenger cars, like this http://www.mthtrains.com/content/20-62054

In matching bright colors and no lettering so you could add your own.

Sorry for a newbie question, but will this be the only way to get this engine in this configuration? Not the paint scheme, but the smoke stack, etc., or will this be offered in different colors/road names?  I have been planning to buy a 4-4-0 at some point, but might opt for a 4-6-0 instead if it were available.

And I would be equally surprised if that was not the case.  Most likely the result of a licensing issue with the Disney folks, who are notorious for being a gigantic pain-in-the-butt to deal with regarding licensing issues (I know from experience).
