I have been working on my 20x16 layout, which is in a building I built just for my trains. I have the main frame work finished. I will add Glenn Snyder display shelves in the cut out lighted spots, but they are out of stock right now. Also I am going to put skirts where there isn’t any shelves for access under the layout. The next step will be to add my back drops, then on to the table top. The table top will be 3/4 plywood, then I will probably do homosote on top of that. I need to put a few more cross pieces in my bench work but I am going to see where my plywood breaks at before I put them in. Going to post some progress pics, if there are any suggestions please let me know. Big thanks also to Ken (Obsidian) for the help with the layout plans.
Thanks. Tyler

Your room looks beautiful!  One thing you might consider:  I notice you have a lot of hard surfaces, walls, floor, etc.  This could be a very noisy place!  Before you add your plywood, what you might consider is picking  up a roll of roofing paper (also called tar paper) and place the the tar paper over your "rafters", and under the plywood.   Just staple the tar paper loosely in place, and then the plywood will hold it in place permanently.  I did this on my layout and it does help mitigate the transfer of noise.  (Some noise for trains is good though!)  Just a thought!

I agree, beautiful work, nice plan.

Looking forward to updates. What trains are you planning to run?

Thank you. I am all over the place with trains from big boys to diesels I like them all lol. The minimum curve radius is 0-72 for that reason. I plan to model modern stuff for the most part. I have all Lionel legacy engines but I will have legacy and dcs on the layout.

Thank you. I will look into that sounds like a great idea!

That looks awesome!  That fact that you are taking a measured approach and getting lighted display cabinets an such from the get go is pretty cool.  In fact its down right inspiring to see someone taking all those planning suggestions to heart.  Looks like it will be a gorgeous place to run your collection and hang out.  I think the noise concern is valid.  Some type of sound deadening under under the boards and cork or foam road bed should do the trick.  If you want you could always hang decoration noise deadening panels on the walls as well.  (can get pricey).  The over-under track plan should provide some nice visual interest.

I look forward to following your progress.

What a beautiful space and foundation.  I also like the air planes.  I have three U control planes that survived my teen years hanging on the stairways to my train/all purpose room.

One question:  Do you have a way to get to those three windows that the  layout appears to be against in case you have to sometime?  I learned it was inconvenient to access parts of train layout and walls against wall, when on the floor.
