I am considering creating my own layout using Atlas O track in a small room roughly 11x10 of which I am allotted +/- 7x9. I have some criteria I want to meet such as a stock yard, two spurs or possible maintenance bldg for two engines. I would like to run two engines freely and there is a stipulation that a tunnel must be evident somewhere in the layout or else the whole plan will be squished. So I have played around a bit with rail modeler on the mac and now am using SCARM which was pretty neat with the elevation of which was another aspect I wanted.
The back side has a long pass that elevated. I was hoping to keep it straight/level and have the incline only on the right hand side. This could also allow a possible mock warehouse from which the rolling stock would appear to flow from.
The elevations are a bit tricky and so I am interested to see what advice you guys have. Most of my grades are at max 3.9 which I am sure is not good, but to achieve the design in such a tight space I have to attempt it.
This is still in developmental stages, so any suggestions or cheaper design alternatives would be great.
My son has now received his second Lionel starter set and with all of the forum viewing and YouTube videos, I am becoming more and more intrigued about starting a layout of my own.
So as of now I am starting from scratch.
