My plan is to make strings of card-stock building fronts on cardboard to place along the back of my layout. It needs to be 12 feet long, so I seek sources for card-stock buildings to use. So far I have all of Gary Johnson's. Where else can I buy these?

Bobby...if you are willing to print your own and mount them, go to www.cgtextures.com and check out all of the different fronts offered....it is in the hundreds AND you can scale them any size you want. Very easy instructions. I printed up enough for 40 feet of backdrop!

This is a 24 x 36 HO backdrop. Enlarge it 175-180% and it will be "O." Don't automatically double it - as it's too big.
That will give you about 5.5' of background in one shot:
Try Pioneer Valley Models @ 413 533-5350; Bob doesn't have a website, but his card stock kits are easy to build and are reasonable. I mounted them on 1/4" foamcore and in some instances enhanced them with Grandt Line windows and doors.

Alan, cqtextures.com has many useful pull down files. What program are use using to detail/make structures, signs, etc. on your layout?
Thanks,
John
John...yep, CG has a lot of nice offerings that can be adapted to any scale. I have kept is simple so far....I just scale up the photo I want to use and print it out. If you use standard paper, then the result is a photo that looks somewhat in the distance. Using matte photo paper, the detail and color is very nice. I do have several photo programs but so far I have not used any of them to alter CGTextures files.

I bought several from Clever Models. One of the full Buildings I bought I only made a front out of it. At Family Garden Trains There are a few fronts. You just have to adjust the scale a little before printing so you get .25"=1'
Here is one I need to finish up and this was just a front I think came from family garden trains. I print the windows on Vellum and put LEDs in the buildings so I can light them up.
I do these a little differently, I print on heavy white paper stock and spray glue to Foam Core.

bobby, one of the easiest and most realistic ways I have found to do large background buildings is to get some of the wood or brick paper ( clever models which has some of the largest selection or micro-mark, etc.). mount it on inexpensive foam board. for realism, cut out windows and door holes and install tichy windows and doors. now you are on your way to a more three dimensional look on a flat surface. you can make these flats as large and long as you want. you can add fire escapes (also from tichy), add billboards on these flats to heighten the realism.I have even added a bay window or two from scrap wood. if you have a little extra room, add a 1 1/2 or 2 inch roof section and put vents, chimneys, signs or even water towers up there.it is amazing how it will not look like just a flat. btw, you can easily weather these texture papers with some chalks and a soft wide brush which will give theblood or brick some feeling of texture and dimension.

Thanks all for your help.
Bobby O gauge and all.
Please check out my web www.westportmodelworks.com for a nice selection of commercial and industrial card stock drawings. They are all based on actual structures, fully colored and can be layered with card stock to provide visual dimension.
