I purchased this Walthers switch tower at a train show and found a place on the layout for it, the details are nice, but the colors! whew.

I would like to repaint but not sure what colors would like right. Any recommendations?

Post some pictures if you got 'em.

Thanks

Like Bob said, find a color scheme that fits your favorite railroad and go for it.

I use a mix of Lackawanna green w/ red trim or EL red (one color fits all) to fit my favorite time in the history of both. If you do the Conrail or other merger eras you can mix it up pretty much the way you like it. It adds to the richness of the look and feel of theme of your layout.

The window shades are unpainted manila folder pieces taped on the inside with masking tape.  Note that to put shades on the 1st floor you'll need to cut a hole in the base of the tower.  I used a Dremel disk and cut a big square opening so I could get my fingers in there.  Since the lower level will not be lit, viewers can't tell there is no floor.

"Somehow, it makes me hungry for French-fries."  A perfectly normal reaction.

My daughter was recently graduated from college with a degree in marketing.   Yesterday, in a conversation in the car, passing McDonald's, she explained that red and yellow make you hungry.

I guess the quarter-million I spent on her education was not wasted.

I agree that the yellow paint scheme is fine but it definitely needs to be toned down and weathered.  I would spray it with dull coat and then use chalks to weather and then dull coat again to seal it.  If you leave the windows in during the process they will probably just look dirty and that would be pretty realistic in my opinion.
