I did call Lionel and they are aware of the start up bugs and reassured me that the next w site will include the old site which made me feel better and the fellow understood my frustration. So I apologize for blowing a fuse but I think Lionel could have had most of their ducks in a row before releasing new site to put us baby boomers at ease.

Getting back to the NYC Hudson 11209 search, here is something that is a bit confusing.  Typing 11209 gives six search results as shown below. The very first result item is the parts breakdown for the loco and tender. But yet there is a second result for the same sku (cs-6-11209) which when following the link only has the MRSP of the loco ($1599.99) and a ! Out of Stock warning. The third search results is for 6-11209-1 which has a price of $1100.00 and also the ! Out of Stock warning. Since the locomotive in search result one has an part number of 6101209001, is the third result the price for just purchasing the locomotive only (no tender) if available ?

Seems like the old website differentiated better between an actual item number vs a replacement part number.

No, the VL Hudson was never sold for that price. The lowest " preorder price" was $1367.

Those don't even go for $1100 on the secondary market lol! Who knows how or why they came up with that price and that option to select it. Chuck may be onto something.

What's the point of a "choice" that's not accurate or even needed.

"Whoever created this new website was not a Lionel person. It could have been configured much more user friendly."  That is very likely; this was almost certainly developed by a web design company.  I will tell you that as a former web developer it is next to impossible to find anything that a group of people all like.  There was always something that at least one person didn't like, even if it was just a font.

On a site like this, or the MTH site, there is a little bit of a learning curve to determine how to use their search feature.  I think it works pretty well, but I appear to be in the minority.  The good news is from other comments here it appears Lionel is very open to feedback and is trying to improve their parts site.  I agree with what some others have said and that is to give it some time.

I corrected my post, I meant the $1100 price to be the price of the loco only (no tender), hence the -1 in the SKU.

I don't think the error is yours to corrct Ed. The VL engine was never a separate sale item.

The second round of  Legacy PM/PE berkshires were. In either case, these were never available for purchase from Lionel directly.

Yes, I realize the VL line Hudson locomotiv eonly was never sold separately, so why the $1100 item is in the search results in the first place I guess only Lionel knows.

All I can say, I miss the old search functionality, it provided a lot more flexibility in narrowing down results.

search by: product name or number OR replacement part number or name

match: beginning of word OR any part of word OR ending of word

Order update: I thought I'd give an update on an order I placed on 2/15/2022.  I received the order today, 2/27/2022 (surprised by the Sunday delivery). I had ordered 5 different items with varying quantities for each item.  I only received 1(one) item, some palnuts. The other items, at the time of order, showed to be in stock.  In the past, those items have not be in stock.  I accept the responsibility that I took a risk when I placed the order.  The palnuts are of no use to me without the other items (which I ordered) that required them.  When I checked the website today, it appears they've updated the website to show items as not available.  Shipping took about as long as it always does (for me), approx. 10 business days.

The real question is. We're you charged for those out of stock items?

I  am not 100% sure. I don’t think so. The Picking Ticket has no cost information on it. The email advising me of order shipment has the charge for palnuts, nothing else, not even shipping. I’m unable to check CC info at this point in time.

Steve

If you created an account when you placed your order, you should be able to log in and check your past purchases and see what you were charged.

Pete

I have placed dozens of parts orders in the past but this was first on new system.

Placed parts order on 2/22/22.  Unfortunately had to create new user ID and password.

I frequently checked parts status showing Pending Fulfillment.

On 3/6/22 I called Lionel, placed on hold, selected call back option, waited, and didn't hear anything for 4 hours.

Called them back again, waited 30 minutes on hold and finally got through.

Informed Lionel did inventory and my order was placed on hold.  They said it is expected to ship later this week. The parts were on hand.

I also asked if my old orders could be linked to my new account and answer was no "since this is a different company.???"

This has certainly been a change in the customer service I have grown accustomed to over the last 20 years.  They are not firing on all cylinders.

Pure speculation, but I wonder if when a certain new parts site showed up a few months ago, Lionel decided to terminate it’s contract with the former parts entity?

I placed an order on the first day of the new website.  At the time I ordered everything was shown as in stock but several of those parts had not been available before so I was hopeful but I doubted I'd really get them.  My order arrived last week and about half the parts were not delivered, kind of as I expected.  I called them last week and the individual I spoke to was very nice but said that those parts were actually not in stock and apologized for the confusion.  I didn't have any wait time for them to answer the phone.

I wish the parts had been in stock, but they weren't.  For me they are just trim parts for a body shell I bought on eBay, they aren't boards or anything that are keeping an engine from operating.

Biggest issue I have is the new site search is not nearly as targeted as you used to be able to do. There seems to be the idea that you could zero in, they have this in the upper left corner of the page.

The problem is, there is no box to actually enter the text to narrow the search results.  The new MTH parts site has a similar feature, only it works and indeed does narrow the search!  Come on Lionel, if the slimmed down MTH parts organization can do it, why can't you?

Another small gripe, be really careful about hitting ESC to close the little part picture display.  The old site worked properly and simply closed the picture pop-up.  However, the new site shoots you to this page.

Hard to believe this is desired behavior, I suspect they're still coding the website.

Oracle?  Oof, this probably wasn't a cheap "upgrade" either.

Also very angry with Lionel parts. Bought a bunch of parts that were shown "in stock" to make some repairs that I only would have undertaken if ALL the parts were there.  Half the parts shipped, without asking me if I was willing to pay for 50% if the others have no outlook.  I would have NEVER accepted a 50% order if 100% were not available.  50% of a repair is ridiculous.

Because the slimmed down MTH parts department is run by the same guy that created the old Lionel parts site that worked.

I'm still wondering why they felt the need to fix something that wasn't broken.  A major improvement would be to fix the Narrow By feature.  Right now, you enter something like Big Boy and you get 527  hits.  If I could then narrow the results by say... Big Boy smoke, it would be useful to get just smoke components.  However, i stead is get 527 hits again!  It's like they ignore the smoke argument.

I suppose I should be happy they're back on-line with the improved site so I can still get some parts, even if I have trouble finding them now.

In the old MTH parts system this situation was quite common for us service centers - no idea what we would get, wouldn't get or when we would get it.   The new site is much much better!

Here is some feedback - (Mainly directed for Lionel people to see).

I ordered some parts today.  I used the new parts site to gain all the information I could.  That said, I still had to call Lionel to place the order.  I am repairing an engine that has no parts listed except the control boards (shipped in 2020, listed in the 2019 catalog).  My thought was maybe a similar older engine parts might be a direct replacement.  Trying to search for items related to each other is very limited.  I was finally able to figure out a different search criteria that gave me what I needed. But I had to back out of the parts search and do a general search for related items.  I was then able to find a catalog/item number for the related engine.  This all took a lot longer compared to using the older site.

Also, I really don't need to see the pictures of the items in the initial parts search.  This does a couple of things.  A person now has to go through additional pages of items rather than do a quick scan of a list.  And now they limited the number of items to 48 per page.  In my case, I had to go through 11 pages to see what items came up in my search.  Yuk.  It would be nice to be able to select if you want to see the photo of the item or not on the initial search.  Once you select the item, the option to see a photo would be appropriate. And if no photo is available, I do not need to see a photo stating, no photo available.  Again it takes up space and makes using the site more cumbersome.

Hope this feedback helps.

I'm still wondering why they felt the need to fix something that wasn't broken.

So while the site was transitioning (unbeknownst to me) I tried accessing it.  I had gotten a weird error message that from my experience led me to believe that it was using a Java backend.  A few weeks prior there was a massively bad vulnerability in a commonly used Java library.  That may or may have not influenced their decision.  If it did, it was a poor choice, cause it could be fixed very easily by anyone worth their salt in the IT world.

You seem to be describing the old site.   You could look at the whole list of parts and then select the photo pop-up if you wanted to see the picture.  Like you say, a big canned picture saying "No Photo" is totally useless!  It was said that they might have been targeting mobile devices with this upgrade.  I don't see how pictures of nothing help a mobile device user!

Agreed they definitely need to get the narrow by functionality working. The current lionelstore.com has this functionality and it works quite well.  What's also really annoying if you are searching by item number, you need to know the exact item number. For example, if I'm looking for item 30018, if I type 3001 and search I wont get any results. The old parts site had the ability to search for items items by starts with, contains or ends with.  This functionality needs to be brought back.

This new parts website reminds me of a few years ago when Lionel redid their website, they basically choose flashy vs functionality.  One example of this is the product search, on the old website you had the product finder where you could narrow down results by item type, road name and other criteria. Once again it worked well. No ability like this on their flashy new website.

My parts order finally arrived on 3/14/22.  Everything I requested.  Noticeable difference from all my previous part orders is no labels on each of the individual "baggies."  So if you don't plan on using the part for a while you might want to label it yourself so you can figure out what it is.

Well shucks.  I can just imagine what I'll have to do on my order. 😦

I always order a variety of traction tires. I hope they at least place each size in a different bag.

I wonder how a person is going to tell what boards are for what engine if they are not labled.  This is starting to go down a dark rabbit hole...
