I just got a NS sd50 loco with ps3. It is a 2/3 rail and has the dcs/dcc switch. I placed the loco on my layout and let it sit for 1 minute to charge the capacitor and went thru the process of adding mth engine and it doesn't show up. I don't hear the click from the engine when I apply power to the track. I tried switching to dcc, applying power and the engine comes to life..lites sounds smoke. Is there a limit of how many engines you can load into the tiu. I currently have 10 loaded into the tiu. I also have a dash 9 with ps2 that won't load either.

Also my current layout consists of a sd90/sd80/sd80 ps2 consist, a ac6000/es44ac ps2 consist, a sd70 ps2, a sd60 ps2, a sd40 ps2, a sw1500 ps2 and a dash 9 ps3 that are al loaded into the tiu. The other dash 9 ps2 that won't load now has been working as I changed it over to a bcr and it worked fine. I wanted to add it to my layout, but it will not load either.

They don't load into the TIU. They load into the remote. They do need to talk thru the TIU. I have a computer program that controls the TIU directly. Even when the remote won't load for whatever reason, the TIU will usually talk to the engine with the computer, unless there's something majorly wrong.

I usually always try a problem engine in conventional mode, with a small fuse hooked up inline to the power supply. I watch the amp draw. It helps understand what's wrong and speeds up where to look. I also use the loader after that, to see what the engine's board is programmed to. It helps identify remote conflicts when the dreaded "no engine" comes up, IMHO.

Thanks for the reply, I had already thought that I might have to load the loco on a track by itself, I cut the power to all the tracks except a siding with nothing but cars and used that track to load both engines.  Thanks again for the reminder.

They should add  (one at a time on the track)  depending what kind of track signal you have on the siding. If it's a 10 make double sure no other engines are receiving power anywhere.

The next step might be the recover engine feature under engine set up menu. It doesn't actually add the engine but tells you if the engine has been recovered or not.

If it's recovered  try adding again.  good luck

Thanks to all for the helpful info. I was trying to add engine with 10 active engines on the live tracks. I switched the track power off to all tracks except 1 siding which only had rolling stock. Both engines loaded perfectly. Right after I posted the original posts I happen to remember that only 1 engine can be on the loading track. I had never noticed that a PS3 didn't make any sound when track power was applied. Hope everyone has a grand and safe Labor day weekend.

I only have 1 tiu. I have a 100 watt transformer on each channel of the TIU and have the variable channels set to fixed. I have 1 channel for main track diesel freight train, 1 channel for steam passenger train and the 2 other channels power 2 short side tracks each off the main freight track. I power all my track switches off a separate 16volt transformer which is phased with the 4 100 watt transformers. I have 5 amp fuses between the transformers and the TIU, and I purchased a 2 inch 30v ac volt meter and a 5amp ac amp meter so I can see how much power the engines are pulling. I have 3 engines in a consist and the most power pull is 3.7 amps and that includes a EOT device on the last car

Sorry! I didn't need to know all that after the fact, but thanks anyways. I'm just glad you solved it!!

I couldn't get any engines to load outside until I removed an extra TIU and deleted it and the other tiu #1. The remote kept trying to contact TIU #1 which is in the basement! #3 is outside but the remote can't tell where it is. It just keeps looking for the lowest TIU it has loaded I guess. I swear I didn't have that issue before??
