South Pinnacle Peak has proven to be an extremely popular attraction with nature lovers since the park opened recently.
Last week, a small group approached the planning board and asked about renting the remote peak area for a small encampment.
When the board heard that they were staunch believers in the "au naturel", the slightly naive board members enthusiastically welcomed what they thought were a nature-loving environmental group.
Soon a rickety fence was constructed, and the board wished they had studied French a little more diligently in high school.
The fact that the fire tower was within the camp boundaries didn't faze the campers a bit, but has helped ranger recruitment numbers immensely.
Also, it's amazing how many people of varying degrees of fitness now complete their hike to the summit, rather than wimping out on the way as has usually been the case.
