This pic popped up on my Facebook page today... the engine is part of the collection at The United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey. The description reads:

NYC 4083 is a one-of-a-kind locomotive that New York Central painted in the experimental “Century Green” paint scheme. It was one one of three units, in an A-B-A set which received the same treatment. In search of a new simplified paint scheme in 1960-61 to replace the “lightning stripe” scheme, the NYC commissioned three new test schemes which were black, gray, and “Century Green.” The decision was made to go with dark gray.

And all these years I thought that they called that color “jade”!!!

Goes well with the several 'Jade' cabeese out there

Totally agree Sam. From what I found online, the “Century Green” was used extensively for freight cars like these...

Great color.  Would have been my pick.

I’m with you, Patrick. Dark gray - really??? Dark monochromatic paint schemes should be restricted to old steamers
