interesting op-ed by The Times. they were a little behind the curve when NY Penn was torn down, and the city did not have the preservation laws then it now has.
its kind of funny since the MSG people wanted to take down the Garden and rebuilt the site years ago, citing mounting financial losses. the city said no, so they invested millions on a facelift for the Garden.
the idea of moving MSG to the west side is tempting. this would be the fourth site for The Garden and the second on the west side. the key question is what is done about the high value air rigths over the current station? who gets paid how much and where does that money come from? The PRR and Cassatt spent a corporate king's fortune building the NY terminal division and NY Penn. today that cost will be born by the city, state and any available federal money as a public works project.
