I have a guy that wants an PRR M1a upgrade to PS/2.  In looking around, all I could find in 3V was the PRR M1b, 20-3084-1.  So, I downloaded that sound file and loaded it into a PS/2 board set with my test set.  All went fine, and it appears to function normally.  One oddity.  None of the crew talk engine sounds work!  The Idle sounds work, and the automatic cab chatter all works when I'm sitting idle.  All the locomotive running sounds are fine, chuff, couplers, blowdown, etc.  The whistle and bell work as well.  It's just the ENGINE SOUNDS x features that are totally gone.  I loaded the set into another board, same issue.

Has anyone got any idea what this is?  It would seem the sound file doesn't have them, but that's a bit hard for me to believe.  It would be the first one I ever saw that didn't have any of these.

That sounds familiar in a different direction. I had an H-9 PRR loco, that I upgraded from a 5 volt to a 3 volt board, it had the same sound set loaded into it, everything works as before, except that the tender red markers don't light. When you power up the loco, the markers blink, but don't come on when the loco is ready to run. Tried a reset, and double checked the markers to make sure everything was wired and plugged in, no difference. Curious.

Markers are always LED and powered from the marker circuit.  What I have found that for some applications the marker are default off.  So if your testing in conventional, they will be off.  If DCS you have to turn them on.  If you do a reset, they default to off.

Ditch and MARS can be repurposed via the sound file, but they are used to drive bulbs.  Like Number boards, etc....  G

John, the 20-3084-1 is a 5V file.  I have that engine and I will listen to the file if you want.

John,  go to the more menu and you will find the interior lights control the front and rear markers.  All other sounds are present.  I have seen this on others and this might be in the loco Luke has.  Markers will work off interior lights in the more menu and not from the LMK key.

George, the ditch outputs are not usually found in steam files.  Hunting around through files will get you lucky sometimes.

Marty,  Under stood, I was talking generic sound files.  In those cases the ditch and Mars only repurpose for bulbs.

Interesting about interior controlling markers on the tender.  I have to seen that, though I know MTH has used a CV vice MUX on at least one newer PS-2 3V premier model for the extra light.

I do know that I have found Markers defaulted as off on both Steam and Diesels.  Using LMK turns them on.   G

That's probably a good idea, I'll send Jeff an email.  I don't know what happened to this one, that's the first time I ever saw those blank like that.
