Good Morning to all,

Looking for parts for a Lionel 0-4-0 switcher #72-8661-250, circa 6/05 and after going to Lionel's main search engine it seems that one has to either find a local

repair person or send the item back to Lionel.

Is there no way to purchase parts on these toys?  I just am thinking that maybe it might be cost prohibitive given that I purchased this little runner from my LHS

some years past.

I did pull the tender shell off and found two PnP boards which look as if there had been some fair amount of 'heat swelling" on components. The lights function,

whistle does but in powering the switcher it barely moves then stops. So, I thought by replacing those boards that might solve the problem, but again, cost may

steer me in direction of purchasing a new switcher and making this little guy a "shelf queen"(i hate that phrase!!) queen...umph!.

So, after reading this, fellow forumnites how about some advice.

Thanks and Happy July 1st Day and may God Look over those families of the 19 firefighters who lost their lives yesterday.

If the reverse circuit board looks bad, also check the locomotive motor with a DC power source. It is usually a bad motor that takes out the circuit board.

There is a dead 0-6-0 switcher sitting in my shop with this very problem: a bad motor and a bad reversing board. I found the parts, but their cost is more than the engine is worth. The owner doesn't want the repair done, even with free labor.

If I may: I just finished an upgrade on one of these - actually the SP version offered

for a very low price by the LCCA a year or so ago. They are well-made versions of

an old PW design, with modern can motors, etc.

- I put in command control using an ERR DC Commander (not Cruise Commander) from Modern Toy Train Parts. It was $60, my labor. Simple; I'll add sound later.

- Or: Dallee Electronics has plain reversing units for about $40; your labor, simple.

- There are instructions with everything; just read them. Much simpler than using a cell

phone.

- Not everything needs to be "sent back". This Lionel 0-4-0 has its origins in scale

tooling, and has a very realistic air about it, to me - shortcomings and all.

I re-lettered it (M&O), added Electrocouplers and a Dullcote overspray, and it lives among my more "scaly" locos just fine.
