My #1225 Berkshire from set number 6-31960 just stopped dead in its tracks so to speak. It ran fine with 4 cars after I got the fastrack set up under the tree. I then added the Polar Express gateman to the plug and play. As soon as the loco got to the activation section it totally shut down. From the point on, the loco has not worked. I moved it to a different section of track and nothing worked. The gateman still works when I pull cars through that section.

I took the loco and tender out to the workroom and put it on the test track. I did pull off the shell and nothing looks wrong. The wheels turn smoothly when I turn the flywheel on the can motor. There is no smoke, no whistle, no light, and not even a hum.

Last year I did have to replace the roller assembly but it ran fine until it was taken down in March.

I do struggle with electronics and I don't know how to proceed at this point. I'm looking forward to some help. No complaints yet from the conductor Tom Hanks. In the meantime I will look through boxes for my PW Berkshire to stand in

Thanks folks

David

Very positive outcome to report.

I did take my muiltimeter and checked for continuity in a variety of places. Basically it was a random process because I am not the best multimeter user and I was also faced with trying to figure out where to test the loco. Ultimately, I determined that I was not getting power from the roller assembly to the rest of the system. I disassembled the roller unit and cleaned it up and used deoxit and it started working. I suspect I got lubricant in or on the rollers and kept it form working properly. It is now working on the loop as it should.

I did and do have a tvs on the zw terminals.

Thanks for the support and ideas. It's not only a relief to get it running, but it's also another little step in the transition from my old stuff to my newer things.

Merry Christmas to all
