Polar Express Berkshire just died

I have no idea what the electronics look like in this engine but if you have absolutely nothing then check for a detached or broken wire perhaps from the one of the rollers. Good luck and keep us posted.

My tenth anniversary version did something similar a while ago,  mine had a problem where the roller connected to the internal red wire.  If you have an ohm meter, test for continuity from the roller to the red wire connector.  

I agree with Rod - check the basic power delivery. If the issue isn't there, then one can begin to suspect the PCB boards which usually amounts to replacement. Unfortunately, your particular locomotive, 6-28649, had many changes throughout production including motors and PCBs that were used.

The same thing happened to me after a derailment on the lighted FasTrack. I took the shell off mine and checked what I could with the shell off, I put it on my table layout and powered it up the board got warm to the touch so, I’m guessing it’s fried.

@RixTrack, just curious if you were running any TVS diodes?

I did take my muiltimeter and checked for continuity in a variety of places. Basically it was a random process because I am not the best multimeter user and I was also faced with trying to figure out where to test the loco. Ultimately, I determined that I was not getting power from the roller assembly to the rest of the system. I disassembled the roller unit and cleaned it up and used deoxit and it started working. I suspect I got lubricant in or on the rollers and kept it form working properly. It is now working on the loop as it should.

I did and do have a tvs on the zw terminals.

Thanks for the support and ideas. It's not only a relief to get it running, but it's also another little step in the transition from my old stuff to my newer things.
