Hello All,

I just decided to buy an O Scale heavyweight Polar Express set and after searching for days found that there are no Polar Express locomotives out there anymore. I decided to buy one similar to it ( Lionel # 6-84692) and change the road numbers and name on the tender. My question is that the front cattle guard is not the same as the Polar Express so does anyone out there know someone who could  3D print one or somewhere I could buy one. Didn’t see one on lionels site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve built this engine from a similar platform......I used a TMCC NKP Berk, I’m not familiar with the RF&P Berk you purchased.....the pilot for the Pol-Ex Berk was still available last time I checked....it is practically a bolt on swap for the TMCC Berk, ....you’ll have to view the Pol-Ex Berk’s pilot in the parts diagram, and more than likely remove your pilot on your Berk to determine feasibility, ...I can’t imagine they made a serious change in engineering, but one never knows with the Big L...Heres former 779 NKP Berk turned into 1225 Pol-Ex....

I figured at some point they’d run out....might try some of the big dog parts dealers and see if by chance they might have one on hand.....I don’t own that model I built it for a customer and good buddy of mine,........I thought that pilot retailed somewhere around 42.00 bucks ....I’d see if I could hunt one down before I went nuts trying to have one 3D’d....I built a CSS model for another fella Chris on this forum, and he did have one or two scale PE smoke box fronts....maybe he’ll see this and chime in.....forgive me if I murder this spelling, you might check with Brausser’s and see if they have that pilot ....somebody correct my spelling if I’m that far off please.....I can certainly share the do’s and don’ts on what I did, but first I’d need to know how close that RF&P is to the TMCC Berks from the early 2000’s.....hopefully like I mentioned, they haven’t changed the tooling too much....

It says it’s from 2017. Looks identical to the PE except the push guard. I’ll Check some of the parts places you said and see what I can find. Like I said earlier the exploded view of the PE shows the push guard attatched to the body not the pilot wheels. Doesn’t show it individually. I’ll keep looking and hopefully someone will chime in. Thank you again for your help

I had to dig through my photos to find this, ....I live deep back in the woods, so internet kinda stinks, .....it’s hard for me to open Lionel’s web site, in fact it’s miserable.....but I did save this pic,....this is the part you’re looking for if the RF&P Berk is built same as the TMCC Berk, ....again, I just don’t know, so I can’t say for sure .....more than likely they are, but I’d confirm before ordering a bunch of parts.....I’m not sure what you’re looking at as far as what you’re saying is attached to the body...rarely is a pilot attached to a scale boiler casting, it’s usually a separate part altogether,....maybe you’re looking at the wrong loco?....the scale Pol-Ex I’m referencing is item # 6-84685 here’s a pic of the Pol-Ex pilot:

Unavailable. Go figure. Guess I’ll run with out it for this year and hope that someone puts one up for sale down the road.

Like I mentioned, now that you’re armed with the correct information, contact the big wig parts dealers, ........some are sponsors at the top of this very forum, all hope isn’t lost, let your fingers do the walking....😉
