Gents

I am re-packing a smoke unit, and changing the resistor (from 6 ohm to 8 ohm).  This smoke unit has never been used.

Lionel early Legacy  6-34582.

I noticed a part on the smoke board (I don't know what it is or does) that has a chunk out of it.  A rectangular part with the word FAN next to it.

I have not put the smoke unit back together for testing yet.  I was wondering if the damage in the pics affects the smoke unit operation.

Thank You

Dave

It's a ceramic cap, but I'm not sure on that smoke unit what it's function is.  I'd probably try to replace it if it were mine.  Without knowing where it is in the circuit, I can't really guess as to it's value, but it's likely a fairly low value cap, quite possibly a .1uf from the size.  If you trace the connections, and they connect across the fan motor, but a .1uf cap there.
