  I have mostly scale engines and rolling stock, but I also have a good amount of postwar. The scale stuff is great looking but sometimes to me it lacks something. I love the Lionel space and military items especially the operating cars. 

Sometimes I get bored just watching a train go around in an endless loop. The postwar seems to add life to a layout with it's interaction , like the rockets, helicopters and so on. 

I'm leaving the hobby this summer. I'm going to be selling off all of my scale trains but for some reason I can't part with the post-war stuff.

Postwar trains are remarkably durable, economical if not mint with no box but still in good working order, valuable if in mint condition with the box, and the trains and  accessories have charm with play value. They also inspire nostalgia for those of us who grew up with them, and they are easy to maintain and repair with an abundance of parts.
