If I wanted to power a Legacy GP-7 Dummy, do I have to purchase another NYC unit and swap shells, or can pick up any generic Legacy-equipped GP-7 and swap out the innards?  What about the trucks... Can I just power the dummer trucks... or swap the side frames and pilots?

Thanks for your help.

I was thinking of doing this, but by using everything from a powered F7 B unit. I got the project as far as buying an F3 B unit and finding out the hard way that the trucks weren't an exact match. I'm not even sure if the F7 would work, but they seem different than the F3. A GP shell swap seems easiest, but changing over all of those small lights would drive me nuts!

You can buy GP-7  truck assemblies from Lionel part number 62085617404 and build up from there. I did this on a dummy GP-30 to put couplers, lights & LED's in with a ERR Dummy kit. It came with pickup rollers, coup;ers, axles and gearing. However, if you want full Legacy operation with motors & sound, then swapping the shell may be the way to go, but installing all the lights and LED's in that dummy shell can be a challenge. Charles Ro recently had the Legacy Polar RR GP-7 for $250. This may be the way to go if still available.
