Hello again
locomotive back from the shop this afternoon, unfortunately DOA. Loaded #20-3542-1e into the DCS 4.20, tried to start and all it did was make a humming noise from tender.I Immediately cut power.
Is there something I can try or look for? or should it just go back? The shop just replaced all the boards in engine and tender.

I'd still take it back. Have them show you it runs.
I gotta' go with Joe here, I'd take it back and let them sort it out.
I agree with both Joe and John, if you take it apart and mess something up they won't honor the warranty!
Better to be safe then sorry, they will repair it with no cost to you!

P.S. did it draw much current when you tried it?
I kinda knew that would be the answer. This is the last locomotive to put in the system for awhile. I thought I was lucky, today was a dedicated train day and the last one showed up at my door today.

That is a PS-3 and both boards went bad? Hope it was a warranty fix in the first place. G
That is correct G, only got to run it thirty minutes. Do you think they are cooked again?

Recently had a board replaced in my grandson's MTH GP20, we noted on test run that the one truck jammed/locked-up, which may have caused the board to fry. Eventually replaced the truck and all was fine. Not sure why the truck was a problem, looked and operated fine until you put it on the track.

Hard to say, but it sounds like they missed what ever caused the failure the first time.
Does this have pickups on the tender? IF so you could try to power it by itself once to see if it comes up ok.
But generally humming is not good. Not sure why both boards went bad. G
G worksheet says bad draw bar shorted and blew everything else. No pickups on tender
