Hi,

I am having a issue with adding engines to the TIU. When I add a engine the engine is found and is assigned a odd address, it has no name assigned to it and all the soft keys show MTC (Trolley Control from what I gather). The engine will start up and shut down per the remote and move but the problem lies with the name and soft keys.  I have tried feature/factory resets for the TIU and deleting the TIU and adding it again. Also I have reset the remote. I am using a Z4000 for power as well and using Fixed output 1. I am sure there is a forum on this already just need some advice and direction please.

Thanks!

Try tethering the remote to the TIU. This will eliminate the radio/interference issue. Another thing that might be coming into play is the presence of illuminated passenger cars as these sometimes shunt the DCS signal and cause erroneous results. That was one of the reasons we put a separate TIU and setup track on the club layout -- to isolate the engine being added from everything else.

Yeah, that sounds like a poor add. I forget if it's from a near dead battery or poor signal strength? I think I've gotten this when the battery in the engine needs charging.

Matt's idea of a test track set up for adding is a great idea. It helps the remote and keeps things straight. If you add on the main with other engines seeing the signal, some strange things can happen to engines already in the remote. I have had where the new engine starts as requested, as well as another already in the remote.

So I dis-connect the layout while adding on my test rail track.

Ooops. I type so slow that Barry answered it!
