I was looking on the [Lionel_FasTrack_System] Digest Number 2382 and found this tidbit of info on the new programmable switches which may be useful to some of y'all...

" I bought 26 various Command Control switches of all sizes, left and right hand. I think to date I have had to bring at least 8 of them back, Some were returned due to the light not being operational, others would not go into program mode, and still others would not work with the remote switch. Two others I have fixed. All his after they were on the layout and the store over 70 miles away. The new ones are working with the exception of one of them which somehow is uncoupling some of the cars with coil couplers. I am working on this next weekend and I think I have found the problem. I have a suggestion for returning them, before you take the new ones home take them out of the box and hook them up to both track power and accessory power from the s hop transformer and see if you 1. Get the lamp to come on, 2 the switches work with the remote controller, and 3. Press and hold the program button down to see if it starts to blink. If all three work > > you will probably not have a problem. There was a problem with a small cam in the underneath side of the switches that came out of its track after a few throws of the switch. If you are mechanically inclined you can fix this yourself which is what I did instead of driving another 140 miles round trip. Lionel QC seems to be lacking a bit!
