Hello, during my recent protosound 2 troubles, I popped the hood on an engine that had been upgraded to swap boards, but they weren't compatible because the upgraded engine has BLACK board connectors while my factory engine has WHITE board connectors. I tried to swap them but they wont connect. Can someone tell me if steam upgrade kits had 3v boards with black connectors or is it hit of miss? Thanks,

Nickstrains.

The shells of the board headers are black for the 5V board connectors and white for the 3V board connectors.  For replacement of a failed 5V board, you use a 3V board with 5V connectors as the pinouts are the same.  If I don't have a replacement with the black connectors for a repair, I just remove the plastic shells from the headers on the 5V board and swap them to the 3V board.  Obviously, you leave the battery connector alone as you use a 2.4V battery instead of the 9V battery.
