I always like to see other people's progress threads, so I thought I would start one.  I'm part of the younger crowd (I was born 30 years after the Pennsy ended steam, LOL) so I'll always take advise from those more experienced.  I'll start from the beginning in the next few post to get caught up to the present.

Here's a layout I built while in college when I came back to the hobby from a kid:

I had no LHS close by that had the scenic materials I needed to complete my latest layout.  I ended up ordering from scenic express.  Would get my order in three days, which was nice.  Now I just get what I need when I go to the TCA York show twice a year.  I seem to always find a project or two every six months (I find myself at the Scenic Express and Korber Models booths every time!).

That's a pretty nice list you have there for Santa.  I do hope he's listening.

Hi Mark,

I did the mortar with smearing light-weight spakling paste into the cracks and then wiped the brick face clean with a rag.  I then used black weathering chalk to tone down the brightness of the colors.

One suggestion is I would pop out the windows, mask off the roof, and spray with Dullcoat    before using the spakling paste.  I didn't and some of the red turned the mortar a pink color.  And then a final spray of Dullcoat to seal the weathering.

Good evening PRR Fan, this past York show I purchased some material at the Korber Models booth called Roberts Brick Mortar.

From the directions that came with this product and your process the material you used and this Brick Mortar must be close to being the same thing.

I looked at dismantling the building as you suggested just haven't made it that far yet.

You mentioned about spraying the building with Dullcoat.

I have never have used this product where can you purchase this product ?

Good luck with your layout, looks great!!!!

Dullcoat is a clearcoat in a spray can made by Testors.  It dries in a clear, matte finish - works great to take away that plastic, shiny sheen and seals chalk weathering.  Krylon makes a clear-matte finish that can be found at Lowe's. Wal-Mart, etc - I use it because of no LHS and it's a lot cheaper.
